New Project Releases

Spring Quilts – New Free Patterns

Two new, free quilt patterns are ready for you!

New novelty prints in fresh light greens, turquoise and pinks were used in our two new quilt patterns. The first we’re calling a Spring Petals Picnic quilt. Make this quick and easy quilt for your picnics and beach trips.  Big 20″ squares are the base for raw-edge applique petals.

SpringPicnicQuilt2

The Spring Petals Picnic free pattern is on our website.  The fabrics are at Walmart.  Pick a bundle of four 18″ x 21″ fat quarters or 97¢ single rolled fat quarters. They’re light and bright, whimsical prints.

Spring Quilt 1

In the Spring Picnic quilt, we used 3 yards of white for the background squares and 9 fat quarters. Most of the prints are directional, so it was fun to place the template to ‘fussy cut’ the prints.  Getting a secondary design is a bonus.

Tip: Skip the fusible web

Risky, right? Not at all! Because the shapes are large, try pinning and using an even-feed/walking foot. It helps if you have an extension table on your machine, if not – use plenty of pins to avoid puckers. Skipping the fusible web saves time and dollars, it also makes a softer applique. Don’t you want a soft, handmade quilt to toss on a warm sandy beach? That’s right – use your quilt.  Make memories. Add plenty of quilting to secure the quilt for extra washing, then enjoy.

The Spring Pinwheel Quilt

Hello flamingos and mermaids!    This small 37″ x 37″ quilt is a fun way to use the sweet novelty prints. The pattern is so versatile, too. Great size for a baby quilt or to brighten up a wall. Other ideas – leave out the sashing and simply sew your blocks together. Add borders to make a larger lap quilt or add more blocks for an even larger quilt.

Find the free instructions on our website and here: Spring Pinwheel Quilt  .  The pinwheel instructions are written using 10″ squares, creating eight half-square triangles at a time.  You’ll get carried away making pinwheels!

All fabrics are in Walmart stores as fat quarters and bundles. You will find some prints available by the yard at select stores. These are all 100% cotton for quilts, sewing and crafting.  Shop soon – they’re just in for the season.  Enjoy!
