New Fabric: Blue Lagoon & Free Quilt Pattern
There’s a new fabric line, already coordinated and pre-cut, called “Blue Lagoon” by Fabric Palette. Our textile team designed a line that makes it easy for you to look like a quilt pro. If you want to work with big prints and geometrics, but have been holding back, we have a free pattern for you try, the Blue Lagoon Quilt lap quilt, sized at 56″ x 60″.
To make the quilt, you’ll need half yard and fat quarter precuts. The instructions are in color with diagrams that show each piece on the fabric. The cutting is simple, rectangles and large squares that show off the big medallion prints to their best advantage. The quilt calls for all 10 of the fabrics in the collection. What a great way to learn about mixing prints!
You’ll start by using the two large prints to tell the fabric ‘story’, then add geometrics for some sparkle, a daisy ditzy for fun, and tonals for resting places. All the bright color and print is balanced by white and a strong neutral grey. See how they play well together? If your eye travels around the quilt, your fabrics are balanced.
This quilt went to Quilt Market, so was quilted simply. Just in the ditch and some vertical lines with a walking foot. With 4″ x 8″ blocks to quilt in, why not try some free motion doodling or matchstick quilting?
We hope you’ll look for Blue Lagoon at Hancock Fabrics stores. In addition to half yards (18″ x 42″) and fat quarters (18″ x 21″), there are 5″ squares and 2 1/2″ x 42″ rolls of strips. The free pattern is on our website, click here.
