Dog Bow Ties

Here’s a gift for your special pups. The bow tie slips on the collar with a little elastic so an additional collar isn’t needed.  Fabric Palette’s Cassovia looks great, doesn’t it?

Dog Bowties

You’ll need a 5” square,  2 ½” x 5” rectangle,  5” square of Pellon Shape Flex SF101, 3” – 4” 5/8” elastic, sewing machine, matching thread and a sewing needle.

Pieces

Press the ends of the 2.5 x 5 wrong sides together, then sew the long side together. Turn right side out.  Center the seam and press.

Sewn_Pieces

Fuse the Shape Flex interfacing to the WRONG side of the square. Sew one side, leaving an opening.

Fusible

Center the seam and sew the sides. Trim the tips off the corners. Turn right side out through the opening, press.

Sewn

Using double thread, in the center of the ‘bow’ take some big ¼” stitches and gather gently. Take a stitch and knot to secure.

Tie

Center the tie, pin in place and sew close to the edge on both sides. Sew the same direction and pinch the tie going through the feed dogs so it is the same shape on both sides and will stay symmetrical.

Machine

Use a safety pin to feed the elastic through the tie. Sew on one end, now you can check that it will go over your dog’s collar, then sew the other end. Trim extra elastic. Use the needle and thread again, and take some stitches to finish the loop.

Elastic

There you go! Doesn’t he look handsome?
